Student Writing

The Summer 2018 Creative Writing Workshops for Teens produced some incredible writing. Here is just a sampling of what happens in a week of creative writing.

MARS by Miles

They say it’s permanent, the trip to Mars. That once you go you can’t come back, but what if you make enough money to pay someone to bring you back? Are there customs to enter Earth now?

RAGE by Ian

I come in all shapes

and sizes; I am

different for everyone.

I consume everything and

anything, but it all tastes bad.

all I ever hear is the

woosh of blood, all I

see is red. Nothing can

hurt me and only one thing

can stop me. People

cower before me on

my fiery throne.

I am rage.

LOVE by Mathys

I spend my time working to keep the

World a better place. My worst enemy spends

His time ruining the world. I help everyone

And everything in hope Hate goes away but

We cannot run away from our fate,

Break ups and sadness have to happen to keep

Life good for everyone. Every tear I see makes

Me drop two tears. Every couple I see makes my

Smile stretch ear to ear. Last but not least

Marriages make me want to take Happiness

On a date.

DRAGONS RULE THE WORLD by Charlotte

Dragons rule the world

Unicorns are the doctors

Dwarves are the miners

Gnomes are the farmers

Fairies are the teachers

Elves are the lawyers

Phoenixes are the firefighters

And us puny humans are left unemployed

THE PARK by Naomi

Tall and thin, bare branches climbing through the air, struggling to reach the sunlight. Leaves blowing about in the wind and scattered all over the floor. Longing to be crushed, crunched on by trampling feet. Blue sky, chirping birds, and sunlight peeking in through the tall branches, trying to steal a glance at the grass down below. The flowers blooming, blushing, and flattered by the bees swirling around them, birds who are trying to steal a sip of their nectar. Vines climbing, crowning, twisting around, implanted into the rocky wall behind them. A windy path with its dust being swirled about in miniature sandstorms.

remember me by Sophia

the grass was cool and wet as i lay on it looking up to the sky.

it is as blue as the ocean, yet is fogged by an array of fluffy white clouds.

i wonder what my meaning is.

if i don’t accomplish anything or make an impact in life, and people don’t remember me, did i even exist?

they say it’s permanent the mark you leave on the world, but i disagree strongly, no not strongly, violently.

i violently disagree.

the legacy you make only lasts as as long as the people who are willing to

remember it and when they are gone, so is your legacy.

i refuse to accept it.

i know i was only a miniscule part of the grand scheme of things, but even the tiniest grain of sand can tip the scale.

i was going to make myself known, so that i may not be

forgotten

i was missing one ingredient. what was i going to do to make people never forget my name?

something charitable or malicious?

the thing is i wanted to do good, but the thing is people always remember the bad and rarely remember the good.

OBLIVIOUS by Camille

Out of the real world

Blanking out

Laying down staring

Into space

Visualizing

In your own world

Of laziness

Until

Someone says: “Hello? Wake up!”

CRISP by Karina

Crunchy,

Rough, and

Irresistible

Snacking on crispy

Potato chips

CREPES by Anaia

Crepes cooked just

Right are the best possible

End it with some chocolate it makes it

Perfect

End it with

Sugar it makes it even better

NARCISSIST by Devon

No treatment

Arrogance

Rare (fewer than 200,000 U.S. cases per year)

Chronic

Inflated ego

Self-image and

Self-esteem

Is fragile

Self-importance

Tests being done

INCREDIBLE by Daniel

I know my limits and

Never push too hard or too fast

Climbing to the top of a mountain or

Racing a cheetah are

Equally as hard as

Drying the laundry or

Isolating yourself from a friend group

Be you and

Let

Everyone else be them
